Public access for Church Lake is located off Victoria Circle in the city of Victoria. From Arboretum Blvd. (Hwy 5) take Victoria Dr. (County Road 11) one block south to 81 ½ St. Take a right on 81 ½ St. and traveling around the circle to the western side where Church Lake Park is located. There is no maintained boat access, but canoe and kayak entry is possible.
Church Lake is a class 2B lake protected for aquatic life and recreation. MCWD staff has been monitoring the lake once a month from May through September since 2006.

Monitoring season duration was from May through September. Surface samples were collected once a month throughout the season and the parameters analyzed include: total phosphorus (TP) and chlorophyll-a. Measurements of Secchi disc depth were also recorded.

The following summary refers to Figure 7.5 (a-c).
- Secchi disk depth, from May to August, decreased from 5.3 m to 1.6 m. By the end of the season, secchi disk increased slightly to 2.0 m (standard > 1.2 m).
- Chlorophyll-a concentrations were below the standard (< 15 µg/L), except in August, when concentrations increased to 52 µg/L.
- Surface TP concentrations increased from 109 µg/L to 129 µg/L in the beginning of the season. From July to September, concentrations decreased from 98 µg/L to 29 µg/L. September was the only month when TP concentrations were below the standard limit (< 40 µg/L).
