Currently there is no public access on Carl Krey Lake. It is located in the city of Victoria and has no road access. Surrounded by forest and wetland, the closest road to the lake is County Hwy 43.
Carl Krey Lake is a class 2B lake protected for aquatic life and recreation. MCWD staff has been monitoring the lake once a month from May through September since 2006.

Monitoring season duration was from May through September. Surface samples were collected once a month throughout the season and the parameters analyzed include: total phosphorus (TP) and chlorophyll-a. Measurements of Secchi disc depth were also recorded.

The following summary refers to Figure 7.3 (a-c).
- Secchi disk depth ranged from 2.0 m to 2.9 m. In June, water clarity increased allowing for the deepest secchi disk of the season for Carl Krey Lake. Secchi disk depth was above the standard (> 1.2 m) for the entire season.
- In the beginning of the season, chlorophyll-a concentrations increased from 1 µg/L to 10 µg/L. Chlorophyll-a decreased in concentrations for the remainder of the season. Concentrations were below the standard (< 15 µg/L) for the entire season.
- Surface TP concentrations were below the standard (< 40 µg/L) for the entire season ranging from 20 µg/L to 24 µg/L.
