Gleason Lake Infiltration Project
The 2007 MCWD Comprehensive Plan identifies an annual phosphorus concentration goal of 80 mg/L for Gleason Lake. It is anticipated that Gleason Lake will be placed on the State Impaired Waters List in the future because of its poor water quality. Reductions of external loads are critical towards achieving the in-lake desired concentrations. A 450-lb reduction in total loading is targeted in ultimate development conditions for the subwatershed in the future. Opportunities identified in the MCWD Comprehensive Water Resources Management Plan to reduce external loads to Gleason Lake include the construction of an infiltration project designed to infiltrate 30% of the new stormwater volume within GL-4 from future development. The proposed project would proactively attempt to implement measures by which the new volume of small/high frequency rain events (less than one-inch) would be completed abstracted from the total volume of excess runoff from the sub-basin. The proposed project is currently focused on sequestration of stormwater runoff through the large 56-acre wetland complex within the sub-basin. An infiltration project in the area would center on development of strategies to reduce stormwater volume discharged into the wetland and retention within the wetland itself through outlet modification or other means.
