Shoreline Garden Tour

Tonka Bay Marina, Tonka Bay
Saturday, July 15 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (1.5-hour tours at 10 am and 12pm; capacity limited)

A growing number of shoreline property owners are embracing the virtues of shoreline gardening - using plants to beautify their shoreline, prevent erosion, provide habitat, reduce pollution and deter geese.

Join us Saturday, July 15 for a free boat tour on Lake Minnetonka to see some examples of these beautiful gardens. We’ll get a close-up view of the gardens and will have a pair of certified landscape architects -- Sam Geer and Michael Keenan of Urban Ecosystems and authors of the Lake Minnetonka Guide to Shoreline Gardens – on hand to discuss how to plant your own.

The tour lasts approximately 1 ½ hours and will depart from Tonka Bay Marina in Tonka Bay.  There are two departures to choose from – 10 a.m. or noon. The tour is free, but spots are limited, so reserve yours today.

The Shoreline Garden Tour is part of “Jump In & Make a Splash!”- a series of community events across the watershed celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District. The series concludes with the Sunset Celebration on Thursday, November 2 at St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis, featuring live music, food and drink. Tickets are $40. People who attend at least five events qualify for half-price admission and those who attend all nine events get in for free!

The event is sponsored by MCWD with Tonka Bay Marina and Urban Ecosytems in partnership with Target, Freshwater Society, 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, Berne Scale, REI, and Wilderness Inquiry.
