Telemetry

In 2007, the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) installed telemetry equipment at three locations along Minnehaha Creek, including the Grays Bay outfall in Wayzata, I-494 and Minnetonka Blvd. intersection in Minnetonka, and Browndale Dam located in Edina. Water levels are monitored at these three locations.  The data from Grays Bay and I-494 are transmitted over a phone line to the MCWD office and the data from Browndale Dam is manually downloaded. 

The telemetry equipment provides water quality staff with continuous water levels every 15 minutes.  The data at the Grays Bay outfall is used to update the MCWD website water levels on Lake Minnetonka every two hours.  This information has been found useful by the public and other agencies in helping to keep them informed on potential flooding, and recreational use.  The water level data for the I-494 location and the Browndale Dam location is used to calculate discharge
